Museo archeologico nazionale di Castiglioncello

Rosignano Marittimo

Pioneering experience of museum decentralization, the Archaeological Museum of Castiglioncello was built in 1914 by Luigi Adriano Milani to collect the grave goods of a large Etruscan necropolis (4th-1st century BC), found during the urbanization works of Castiglioncello between 1903 and 1911.Built in the shape of an Etruscan funeral urnetta, the Museum stands on top of a small object immersed in the Mediterranean scrub, from which you can enjoy a splendid view of the sea. After a slow decline, the Museum was closed in 1972 and the entire collection transferred to the National Archaeological Museum of Florence.Subject to careful restoration by the Superintendency and the Municipality, it has reopened its doors with the original collection and a completely renovated set-up. Guided tours and educational and didactic activities for schools and groups, by reservation. The museum is open to the public by reservation for groups of at least three people. Guided tours available for a fee.Timetable detail (1):Opening days and times:From 13 to 30 June 2020Saturday: 16.30 - 19.30Sunday: 10.00 am - 1.00 pmFrom 1st July to 5th September 2020Tuesday to Sunday 17.30 - 20.30 (closed Monday)From September 6, 2020 until June 30, 2021first Sunday of the month 10.00 - 13.00Reservations are appreciated, which are however mandatory for groups of more than 9 people.Opening by reservation for groups of more than 3 people, even outside of the times indicated above.Guided visits (for a fee) and educational and didactic activities for schools and groups.Info and reservations: tel. +39 0586 724288; e-mail to: palazzobombardieri@comune.rosignano.livorno.it
